A 21-year-old man, Allen McQueen, was shot dead while holding his 1-year-old daughter Taylor, in his arms.
Daily News reports that the tragedy happened on July 7, Tuesday, on Bronx Street in New York, the USA.
“The guy who got shot had the baby in his hands. He was trying to run for cover because he was trying to protect the little girl. Once he got hit, he went down, and the child went down with him. The guy who did the shooting was running away and laughing. He seemed like an insane person,” a witness said.
When the shooter escaped, a stranger rushed over and picked up the crying baby.
“My first instinct was to get the baby. When I got to her, she was full of blood. I didn’t know if it was her blood or her dad’s,” said Arielle Corkery, a mother of six.
Bill Bratton, the police commissioner, revealed that McQueen was a “very active gang member” and became the victim of a cruel gang war.
“No matter how much of a criminal record the individual with the baby had, to assassinate that individual in the full view of a public playground right across the street crosses a line.
“I think the public can fully appreciate our continuing and expanding efforts to get these people off the streets. They have a total lack of consciousness of human dignity and human life and we are doing all we can to scoop them up,” Bratton said.

The police spokesman said that the Bronx dad was the most recent victim of gang violence, adding that out of 161 murders committed this year, 60 were gang related. He also disclosed that McQueen had been arrested 23 times, mostly for robbery and assault.
Meanwhile, little Taylor who miraculously escaped death is now with her mother.
“She’s doing fine. She’s alright, she’s alright. She’s with her mom,” said a woman who answered the door where McQueen lived.
