Nigerian civil servants, students donated towards the fight against Apartheid in SA - Prof Akinyemi

Reacting to the current Xenophobic attacks going on in South Africa, former External Affairs Minister, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi said South Africans should be grateful to Nigerians & other Africans who fought for them during apartheid. Speaking with Channels TV yesterday April 22nd, Professor Akinyemi said during the struggle to end apartheid, Nigerian civil servants were compelled to donate some of their salaries into a liberation fund meant for the fight against apartheid.

 Military Intensifies Attacks On Sambisa Forest

The Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly run out of arms and ammunition as the Nigerian army continues its sweep operations to rid the Sambisa Forest of the remaining militants.
General Chris Olukolade, the director of defence information, confirmed this information to reporters in Abuja, saying that ground troops with support from air strikes have attacked the forest, smoking the insurgents out of their hideouts.
While the army spokesman did not reveal whether the army had succeeded in killing or destroying terrorists’ camps in the current raid which began yesterday, an escapee from Tabe village in Damboa local government area said: “the Boko Haram terrorists have run out of arms and ammunitions as the military have intensified attacks on Sambiza Forest”.

Fayose Vows To Lead Nationwide Opposition Against APC

Governor, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has vowed to lead a nationwide campaign against the All Progressives Congress (APC) beginning from the South-West region of the country.

The governor who is currently  in a running battle of with the APC members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly made this vow in a statement yesterday, April 22, in Ado Ekiti.
According to Punch, Fayose lamented that he had become the“ prime demolition target” of the APC national leadership because of his “overt and unalloyed support for President Goodluck Jonathan during the campaigns.”
The governor promised to remain loyal to Jonathan and be his last man standing even if all Nigerians deserted him.
He said: “I wish to declare unequivocally that I remain loyal to President Jonathan even after May 29 as my support for his re-election and administration was not about bread-and-butter.”
In the same vein, the 19 APC lawmakers of State House of Assembly have been issued a seven-day ultimatum to drop the impeachment proceeding against Fayose.
The ultimatum was issued by some women in Ikere Ekiti on Wednesday who warned  that failure to back down from the impeachment proceeding against the governor would incur the wrath of the gods.
They also cautioned that any attempt to impeach Fayose would spark violence in the state.
Supporting the position of the women, Mr. Duro Faseyı, a senator-elect for Ekıtı North Senatorıal dıstrıct and embattled Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omırın also warned the lawmakers against settıng the state on fıre.
