Orekoya’s kidnapped 3 children found naked in a bag

The Lawanson Road, Itire abode of the Orekoyas, whose three children were kidnapped by a housemaid last Wednesday, 24 hours after she was employed, became a Mecca of sorts yesterday, following news of their discovery.
A police officer, Mrs Orekoya and Aderomola.
The children, Demola, 6; Adedamola, 4, and Aderomola, 11 months, were reportedly found in an uncompleted building in Shasha area of Akowonjo, Lagos, Tuesday night, after an undisclosed ransom was paid into an account.
According to their maternal grandfather, Senior Apostle Abraham Adekunle, the children were found naked inside a bag. No arrest has, however, been made.
The abductors, as gathered, had sent an account number of an undisclosed bank to the Orekoyas.
The children, who had been ravaged by mosquitoes, were immediately taken to police hospital, Ikeja.
When Vanguard visited the Orekoya’s home yesterday, the children and their parents were yet to arrive from the hospital. Their grandfather, Senior Apostle Adekunle, described the eight days of his grandchildren’s disappearance as one of the worst challenges he had faced in his 67 years of existence.
Grandfather’s story
According to him, “these eight days have been days of unrest for every member of my family.“It all started after my daughter, Adebisi Orekoya, applied for a nanny through OLX (an online sales portal). On Monday (last week) one lady, who identified herself as Mary Akinloye, came for the job.
“My daughter took her to her place of work to introduce to her colleagues. Next day, Tuesday, she resumed work. But on Wednesday, she took my three grandchildren, leaving Michael, the eldest, a boarder who was on holiday, with information that she was going to get something.
“When Michael did not see Mary and his siblings, he contacted his mother by  phone. My daughter in turn called her husband, who had to cut short his trip to Ibadan and return home.
“We went to Surulere division and Area ‘F’ to incident the case. Efforts to reach Mary on her phone proved abortive, as it was switched off. But she called next day to say she was with the children and demanded for ransom of N15 million.
“Since then we have been running from pillar to post looking for how to raise the money. Public-spirited Nigerians, family members and friends contributed.
“Aside that, we did not relent in prayers. There was no church around this area that I did not visit for prayers. In fact, in one of the prayer sessions, prophesy came that we would find the children today (yesterday).
“I have nothing else to say than to thank God for sparing the lives of my grandchildren.”
Also, elder sister to Mr. Lere Orekoya, Mrs Adesunbo Alabi, stated that when news of the disappearance of her nephews reached her, it was like a dream.
“At first , it seemed like a home theatre movie. I never believed until I came and saw my brother’s wife crying. I really appreciate my brother’s courage during this period because he encouraged us not to cry, that anything that happens to one in life is for a purpose.
“My joy knows no bounds today because the abductors demanded for money, where other victims were killed.”
Hospitalized
When Vanguard visited the hospital , Mr. Orekoya was seen rocking Aderomola, the youngest child, to sleep with a lullaby: Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream.
While Aderomola was on drip, the other two were playing.
The children described the kidnappers’ hideout as their new home, saying Mary cooked the meal they ate.
Efforts to get their parents’ reaction, yesterday, initially proved abortive as they said it was not a day for explanation.
Mr. Orekoya, however, said the family would brief the press at their home today.
After much persuasion, he simply stated that the rescue of his children was an indication that prayers worked.
“In one word, I will say that prayer works. We are happy that they are alive and well,“ he said.
OLX response
After days of silence from OLX, the online sales portal, where Mrs Adebisi Orekoya, applied for a nanny through an advert, finally responded by describing the situation as unfortunate.
OLX Country Manager, Lola Masha, in an online statement, yesterday, said: “OLX is an online classified site that brings buyers and sellers together to promote trade.
“We take steps to moderate and review all adverts, but we do not participate in the negotiations between buyers and sellers.
“Transactions are performed directly between both parties. In all our marketing campaign, we continuously urge our users to take necessary precautionary checks when using OLX.
“We sincerely hope that the three kids are returned safely to their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we will provide all help within our capacity to facilitate the quick reunion of the children with their family.
“We continue to innovate and improve our review process with tighter measures that would help to minimize future occurrence of negative incidents.
“We also need our users to help us kick out bad players and ask them to report any dubious activity or user on the site for immediate action.”

Two Fear dead as Fulani Clash With Yorubas In Kwara Kills

At least two persons were killed and property worth millions of naira destroyed when Bororo-Fulani traders clashed with Yoruba natives of Oro-Ago in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Sun news reports.

Investigations which were conducted in the area revealed that the problem might have started when Fulani-Bororo settlers disobeyed an already laid-down rule that the settlers should not bring arms and ammunition or fighting sticks from their settlements on Oro Ago market days.
The Fulani traders entered the market with arms on Monday but the vigilance team and hunters collected their weapons and kept them in Oro Ago town.
The seized weapons were allegedly later carted away by the leader of the Fulani community in the area, popularly called Serikin Fulani, and handed back to his people to the surprise of the local vigilance team.
In the aftermath of that, there was a breakdown of law and order as the two groups clashed when the vigilantes tried to retrieve the weapons. This resulted in four people sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
One of the youths of the area, Sogo Babarinde, who repaired phones in the market, was reportedly killed by the Fulani.

Another version of the report according to the Sun claimed that youths in the area also killed one of the Fulani people, before they were chased away from the community.
At least about 10 motorcycles and five vehicles belonging to some members of the Fulani community were reportedly burnt by irate youths.
Meanwhile, security operatives including military and policemen, as well as the local vigilance team have been keeping vigil in the area to restore normalcy and prevent a reprisal attack, as people in the area were living in palpable fear.
Ajayi Okasanmi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) has already said that only two persons were killed and not seven as being speculated, adding that men and officers of the command had been able to restore normalcy in the area after the clash.
He also said the local government authorities had constituted a committee, comprising the natives and the Fulani residents to resolve the matter, and prevent a reoccurrence.
This is the second report of clashes between Fulani and Yorubas in Kwara in the past two weeks. The earlier attacks occured Eruku community of Kwara State. The clash claimed the lives of at least seven people.

After the earlier clash, royal fathers had to call a meeting with Fulani leaders and the police in Kwara state so as to avoid further occurrences.

Tinubu Is My Role Model - Kashamu

The senator-elect and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun state, Chief Buruji Kashamu, has described the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as his role model.

The chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the PDP in the southwest in an open letter eulogises the former Lagos state governor in a very unexpected way. Kashamu, one of the fiercest opponents of the APC before the 2015 elections, has described Tinubu as a true hero to be emulated by every Nigerian.
Kashamu said that it was important to honour those deserving of honour now that elections are over. In the open letter addressed to Tinubu, Kashamu said, “Truth be told, men like you are made up of sterner stuff and are rare to come by in every generation. Little wonder you are called the Asiwaju and Jagaban of Borgu. I doff my hat. I hope that in spite of our membership of different political platforms, we would be able to collaborate for the upliftment of Yorubaland in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
“My sincere prayer is for the Almighty Allah to keep you and give you good health and long life to be able to see the Nigeria of your dream. For me, I join other Nigerians in wishing you the best, even as we aspire and pray Almighty Allah to make us – the younger ones – be like you, the Jagaban of Borgu.”

Kashamu described Tinubu as the architect of modern Nigeria, who, he said, made history by leading an opposition party for 16 years and then taking power at the centre. He noted that without Tinubu, the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, would not have won the March 28 election.
He said, “Although I now belong to the opposition, your achievements transcend political divides and I am not ashamed to publicly acknowledge them. There is no denying the fact that your place in the history of the Yoruba race in particular, and, in Nigeria in general, is well etched. The fanatical support that the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, enjoys in his homestead was matched with your commanding influence in the politics of the South-West and indeed the Yoruba race to produce the results we witnessed during the elections.
“By your sheer wit and unwavering commitment to democratic ethos, true federalism and economic prosperity, you led the Alliance for Democracy from a one-state party to a regional party and now a national party that is about to form the government at the centre.”
Buruji, who sued the former president Olusegun Obasanjo last December over a controversial book authored by the ex-president, also congratulated Obasanjo and the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun. He promised Amosun that he would ensure that the nine PDP senators in the Ogun state House of Assembly will give him maximum cooperation.

Despite his loss in the just conclude governorship election, Ribadu expressed optimism that the party will bounce back, ThisDay reports.
Speaking on Wednesday at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Yola, the state capital revealed that himself and other chieftains have decided to remain in the party to address the problems that led to the party’s defeat in the state.
He said the party’s stakeholders have resolved to restructure the party with the aim of wresting back power come 2019 elections.
The former anti-graft czar said the PDP will bounce back in full force and will take back its power from the ruling party (APC), claiming that the PDP will clinch victory in 2019, which informed their decision to remain in the party.
He, however, advised his teeming supporters not to lose hope, assuring them that with doggedness of purpose the party will one day return to power and prayed for the success of the new elected government of the state.
“A journey of one million miles starts with one step, so let us continue the journey we started and not despair as nothing can be achieved without perseverance,” he said.
Ribadu while commending the supporters, he said: “I am grateful to you from the bottom of my heart. We must accept our destiny in good faith and we must console each other because we had good intention to serve this state.”
He promised to continue to contribute to the development of the country despite being in opposition political party.
The governorship candidate revealed that what propelled him to join the guber race was for him to use his vast experience to develop Adamawa State and ensure unity between the diverse cultural and ethnic groups in the state.
“We had Adamawa people in mind when we set to contest the gubernatorial seat. Our aim was to entrench peace, development and progress. Now that we are in the opposition, we shall still strive to achieve that,” he said.
Ribadu lost the governorship poll after polling scored 98,917 votes to emerge third against the 362,329 votes scored by Jibrilla Bindow, who eventually emerged the winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
But it is speculated that the PDP didn’t help the former EFCC boss’s chances following its internal feud which was not settled up to the time of the elections, a development that did not allow the aggrieved group to be fully integrated into the party.
Meanwhile, some residents posited that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar was also a contributing factor to Ribadu’s loss in the state guber poll. Atiku was bent on giving the state to the APC.
