Adamawa State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guber candidate,
Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has this to say about the party.
Despite his loss in the just conclude governorship election, Ribadu expressed optimism that the party will bounce back, ThisDay reports.
Speaking on Wednesday at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at his residence in Yola, the state capital revealed that himself and other chieftains have decided to remain in the party to address the problems that led to the party’s defeat in the state.
He said the party’s stakeholders have resolved to restructure the party with the aim of wresting back power come 2019 elections.
The former anti-graft czar said the PDP will bounce back in full force and will take back its power from the ruling party (APC), claiming that the PDP will clinch victory in 2019, which informed their decision to remain in the party.
He, however, advised his teeming supporters not to lose hope, assuring them that with doggedness of purpose the party will one day return to power and prayed for the success of the new elected government of the state.
“A journey of one million miles starts with one step, so let us continue the journey we started and not despair as nothing can be achieved without perseverance,” he said.
Ribadu while commending the supporters, he said: “I am grateful to you from the bottom of my heart. We must accept our destiny in good faith and we must console each other because we had good intention to serve this state.”
He promised to continue to contribute to the development of the country despite being in opposition political party.
The governorship candidate revealed that what propelled him to join the guber race was for him to use his vast experience to develop Adamawa State and ensure unity between the diverse cultural and ethnic groups in the state.
“We had Adamawa people in mind when we set to contest the gubernatorial seat. Our aim was to entrench peace, development and progress. Now that we are in the opposition, we shall still strive to achieve that,” he said.
Ribadu lost the governorship poll after polling scored 98,917 votes to emerge third against the 362,329 votes scored by Jibrilla Bindow, who eventually emerged the winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
But it is speculated that the PDP didn’t help the former EFCC boss’s chances following its internal feud which was not settled up to the time of the elections, a development that did not allow the aggrieved group to be fully integrated into the party.
Meanwhile, some residents posited that former vice-president Atiku Abubakar was also a contributing factor to Ribadu’s loss in the state guber poll. Atiku was bent on giving the state to the APC.
