A riot has broken out at an Australian prison because apparently the inmates need a cigarette.
Prisoners are on edge at the Metropolitan Remand Centre in Ravenhall in Melbourne, Victoria, due to the impending introduction of a state-wide smoking ban in prisons, according to a prison source, The Age reported.

Just after noon on Tuesday, inmates began rioting inside the grounds
and breached a secure inner perimeter. They can be seen in news footage
carrying sticks, covering their faces to conceal their identities and
bashing on walls. A fire has reportedly been started within the grounds.
Parts of the prison have been locked down and there is no threat to public safety, a spokesperson for Corrections Victoria said in a statement emailed to Mashable Australia. "All staff been accounted for and there are no reports of staff injuries at this stage. Police have secured the perimeter of the prison," the statement said.
More than 300 prisoners are causing havoc, according to 3AW Radio.
At least 84% of those entering the state's prisons smoke, the ABC reported. Corrections Commissioner Jan Shuard tells the publication the prison system is "ready" for the implementation of the smoking ban, after spending 18 months working to introduce it.
