Boko Haram sieze another Borno Town

Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly taken over Marte town in Marte local government area, Borno state. 
According to reports reaching us, Insurgents numbering around 2000 men strong stormed the town on Thursday April 23rd and engaged Nigerian troops in a gun battle, forcing the troops to flee the town.

One resident in the village , Imanu Habib narrated what transpired and said: “The terrorists, numbering
over 2,000, appeared from various directions on Thursday and engaged the soldiers in Kirenowa town and adjoining communities in Marte. They fought with soldiers over the night and the fight continued today (Friday), forcing hundreds of soldiers to flee” .
During the shootout, Many homes were destroyed and the lots of residents are on the run.
Marte’s closeness to lake Chad has made the town rich and this is the second time, they have been attacked by Boko Haram terrorists.
Marte was first attacked in 2012  but were chased out by Nigerian troops shortly after the declaration of state of emergency in Borno state in 2013. They also attempted to take over the town the second time in 2014 but were forced out by Nigerian troops.
Marte is a Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria, on the western coast of Lake Chad. Its headquarters are in the town of Marte It has an area of 3,154 km² and a population of 129,370
