In an interview on Power 105's The Breakfast Club, Kanye West discussed his own hypocrisy at the recent Grammy Awards,
his ambition "to make a sexier Ugg," and his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose,
saying that "if Kim had dated me when I first wanted to be with her
there wouldn't be an Amber Rose." Watch the video below.
The conversation started with Kanye's recent work in fashion, which allowed the rapper to embrace the same Robin Hood themes that he expanded on his recent interview with Style. "As rich people, our focus shouldn't be on how we get a new Phantom," he said. "Our focus should be on how we help the middle to lower class have a better life." He repeatedly hammered concepts based around equality, suggesting, "this idea of being better than the next man, is the wrong mentality in the first place."
The egalitarian rhetoric may not square with Kanye's recent actions at the Grammys, but he recognized that. "That was completely hypocritical," he said. It turns out that he never listened to the Beck album. "The other day I went to dinner, sat down with Taylor Swift and ironically they were playing the Beck album… I was like man, this is kind of good. (Laughs.) I hadn't even heard it." (Kanye got Beck's phone number is supposed to call him to apologize, but "just keep[s] forgetting.") Not that the rapper regrets his actions: "The person that won the most was Beck, because if I hadn't done that, his album of the year would have never been mentioned. Now it's in all the chatter -- 'Kanye West messes up again.'"
Kanye also addressed the relationship between his wife, Kim Kardashian, and his ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose. "[Rose] just soaking in the moment," he said. "If Kim had dated me when I first wanted to be with her there wouldn't be an Amber Rose." "It's very hard for a woman to want to be with someone whose been with Amber Rose," he added. "I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim… don't ask me no more, I just want to be respectful."
While there's no love lost between Kim and Amber, Kanye maintained that Kim and Beyonce "love each other" and "respect each other -- though there may be a "Lebron James/Kobe element" to their connection. He claimed that at one point Beyonce had a picture of Kim on the wall in the studio when she was recording, and that Kim plays the "7/11" video for North West.
Occasionally the conversation also circled back to Kanye's music. "'Wolves' came from a conversation that me and Drake had where we was gonna do an album together called Wolves… I asked him, we talked about it, he said he was gonna do it. He was sending beats back and forth -- I've got this one record with Young Thug that I think we're going to put on the Rihanna album… [Drake]'ll probably be mad that I mentioned it on your show cause he hates y'all so much." Kanye refused to say when his next album would come out, but he said it's 80 percent done. On the new material, he promised he's "embracing the music, embracing joy, being of service to the people."
