According to the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (rtd), the officers are ready to return to areas in the North East such, specifically Gamboru and Ngala posts, Leadership reports.
The move by the NCS is due to the request by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen Tukur Buratai, to the Customs yesterday, October 5, in Abuja, where he requested that personnel of the NCS should return to their posts to boost the morale of his men on ground.
Responding, Ali admitted that officers of the NCS were ready to return to their posts, adding that he is confident that with the army’s support, there will be the enabling environment for those who will be posted to the area.
The Customs boss also paid a courtesy call on the service chiefs in the company of his management team, visited the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, Chief of Defence Intelligence Agency, Air Vice Marshal Monday Morgan, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, Buratai and the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.
President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Ali as the comptroller general of the NCS on Thursday, August 28.
The appointment of Ali elicited harsh criticisms from Igbo activists who accused President Buhari of neglecting the next in line who is an Igbo to appoint a northerner who had not served in the customs before.
