Anabra State Nigeria:21 Babies Missing From Motherless Babies Home

21 Babies Missing From Motherless Babies Home

Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebere Obiano has revealed that 21 children out of the 26 housed at the Madonna Angels Community Children’s Home (Motherless Babies’ Home) in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area are missing.

Mrs. Obiano, who supervises the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, told journalists that the details and whereabouts of the missing children must be discovered as she ordered a probe into the mysterious disappearances of the children.

The children were discovered missing after the Department of State Security (DSS) in the state discovered and arrested 14 child mothers in the home.
It was after the discovery of the mothers that the 21 children were discovered missing.
A ministry official said the governor’s wife was unhappy that child traffickers still operated in the state.
The official said: “You will remember that she has asked all traffickers in the state to leave Anambra or face the wrath of the law.”
A security source said the missing children were found as the home had 26 of them before the DSS  found 14 pregnant girls in the home against what it was registered for.
The DSS officials suspiciously asked where the women who had given birth kept their children but couldn’t get good answers.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Victoria Chikelu, who confirmed the development directed Nigerian Pilot to her Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Victoria Mgbemena for details.
Reverend Sister Uyanne, who is in charge of the home was unavailable for clarification but the ministry has ordered the closure of the home.
This is not the first time children will go missing in motherless babies homes. Sometime last year, 11 babies were discovered missing out of 25 babies reported to be staying at a motherless babies home located at Onitsha South Local Government, in Onitsha, Anambra State, eastern Nigeria.
