Abuja – Pastor Babatunde Idowu, the
District Overseer of Foursquare Gospel Church, Wuse, on Sunday, called on
fathers across the country to do their best to make their families successful.
Idowu made this call in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja at the celebration of the 2015
Father’s Day.
The pastor said that a father, who could not provide leadership for his family, had no business to lead the church.
The pastor said that a father, who could not provide leadership for his family, had no business to lead the church.
According to him, the father should
pass the message first to the family that God has put directly under his care
and to the family of Christians at large.
“A successful family does not happen
by accident. It happens when people make the choice to take good decisions,
involve in decent practices and lifestyles to honour God and their families.
“After God and our spouses, our
children should be valued above all others,’’ he said.
Idowu said priority should be given
to the time that fathers spent with their families, warning that work, business
and other activities could make them neglect their families.
The President of the Council of
Foursquare Men, Wuse District, Mr Thomas Itodo, said fathers were the ministers
in the family with the responsibility to ensure responsible homes.
“Fathers should be able to raise
healthy and well trained children by teaching them while still under parental
care,’’ he said.
Itodo therefore called on fathers to
create time for their children and wards, to enable them carry out their duties
at home.
NAN reports that the Father’s Day,
which is observed on the third Sunday of June, honours all fathers,
grandfathers, great-grandfathers and father figures for their contributions to
their families.(NAN)
