One close aide of the deputy governor said that the abductors had sporadically shot into the air on arrival at Ibeto’s home in a Golf car and a Toyota Hilux van to scare away the residents of the area before whisking away their victim.
A ransom has already been asked by the kidnappers, as they have contacted the mother of the kidnapped and asked for an undisclosed sum.
The aide to the deputy governor said, “the kidnappers arrived the family house of the deputy governor in two vehicles, a Golf car and Hilux Van on Friday at around 10 pm. They started shooting in the air before kidnapping Ayuba who just wedded.”

One source close to the family said that the kidnappers turned down a plea for the victim to speak with his aged sick mother.
“Instead, the kidnappers used Ayuba’s phone to call his mother and told her that her son is safe but they told the old woman all they need was money,” the source disclosed.
The police command spokesperson, DSP Ibrahim Gambari, said that the police is yet to be informed of the kidnapping.
I am not aware of any incident of such nature but I will investigate,” he said.

However, the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Bala Bitrus confirmed the kidnapping, saying: “some gunmen stormed the family house of the deputy Governor and went away with his younger brother on Friday night”.
He also said he wasn’t sure if the kidnapping was politically motivated as the details of the incident was still sketchy.
Bitrus however said that from testimonies of eye witnesses at the scene of the kidnap, “it was as if the kidnappers wanted to kidnap anybody that is related to the deputy Governor”.
Two Months ago, the Niger State Deputy Governor was evicted from the Government house due to his involvement with the APC.
Deputy Governor Ibeto and the Governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, became political rivals after Ibeto’s defected to the APC during the gubernatorial primary in Niger State.
Kidnapping  has been rampant in North Central Nigeria as Boko Haram attacks are common in North east.
