Enugu—LEADERSHIP of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday rejected the result of the governorship election held in the state on Saturday in which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, as the winner.
Addressing a press conference in Enugu, yesterday, shortly before the final result was released, state chairman of the party,   Dr. Ben Nwoye, the governorship candidate, Mr. Okey Ezea   and his running mate, Mrs. Juliet Ibekaku, unanimously vowed to challenge the result legally.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, standard bearer in Enugu State,   Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was declared winner of the governorship election with a total score of 482,277 against his closest rival, the APC governorship candidate, Mr. Okey Ezea, who polled 43,837.
Embattled Ezea told newsmen, yesterday, that “what was witnessed yesterday (Saturday) as election was a sham.
‘’There was also ballot box snatching, physical injuries from PDP thugs unleashed on APC supporters. Over 5,000 thugs chased away our supporters.  I was almost killed.
“It is a case of police aiding and abetting thuggery, even the INEC staff were compromised too. Therefore, we are saying as far as we are concerned, there was no election in Enugu State.
‘’We, therefore, call on INEC to cancel the election completely and   order a fresh one where police from outside the state will come to supervise.”
Reacting, the state police command’s spokesman, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said “that is not true as police do not vote, but provide security for voters   and those   conducting election.’’

Bakare Favoured To Head Buhari's Transition Team

A report on Ekekee.com suggests that the General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly Pastor Tunde Bakare will head the transition committee of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
The transition committee is responsible for the smooth handover between the outgoing administration and the incoming one for the sake of government continuity.
Already, Vice President Alhaji Namadi Sambo has been appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan to lead the 16-member Transition Committee to work with the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) government of Buhari  to ensure a smooth transition of power.
Bakare was Buhari’s running mate in the 2011 presidential elections under the Congress For Progressives Change (CPC). Both men have maintained a healthy relationship after that unsuccessful political journey.
The 60-year-old fiery preacher had recently advised the president-elect to start the fight against corruption from his inner circle and show a good example, saying change cannot be realized if this was not done.
Just last month, Bakare had described Buhari as a man of integrity who he has a high level of respect for.
Bakare advised Buhari before the presidential poll to accept defeat if the APC lost, and join hands with the winner to lead the nation to greater heights. He also said that he was in doubt about the reliability of “Buhari’s environment.

Ambode Victory Speech Will Make You Proud

Newly elected Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, has said he needs PDP’s governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, and others who contested against him to join hands with his administration to build the state.
The APC’s candidate at the just concluded guber polls said this during his acceptance speech at the party’s secretariat in Lagos shortly after he was declared winner of the governorship election.
Ambode Victory Speech Will Make You Proud
Lagos State Governor-elect Akinwunmi Ambode
Ambode had defeated Agbaje after securing 811,994 votes against hiAgbaje’s 659,788 votes.
“To my main opponent, Mr. Jimi Agbaje of the PDP, I thank you for a keen contest and invite you, alongside other governorship candidates, to join hands with me in moving Lagos forward,”  he said.
Ambode then made a promise to Lagosians that his administration would build on the legacy and achievements of his predecessors, Gov. Babatunde Fashola and Chief Bola Tinubu.
“I am humbled that you have placed your trust and faith in me.
“The love of this state and our common belief in what we can accomplish, our belief in what this state already is, and in what it is destined to become binds us together in a social and moral contract of high purpose.
“I shall honour that contract with every fiber of my being.
“This day I pledge to you that I shall devote myself to bringing even greater prosperity, growth and development to every inch of this state.
“I also pledge that I shall build on legacy and progress of my predecessors,” Ambode said.
He then promised to not let the people down and said he would make Lagosians proud.
“The people of Lagos have demonstrated that Lagos is not about ethnicity or religion but about a common desire to enthrone good ‎governance.
“Lagos under my watch will not discriminate. It has not in the past, and will not in the present; not even in the future, there will be no political victimisation.
“By affirming your faith in the APC and in me, you have, for the first time in 16 years, married progressive governance at the national level with progressive government at the state level,” he said.
“The ramifications of this harmonious unity are completely positive.
“This is a chance that we have worked toward for many years.
“The joint infrastructural and employment projects and collaboration between the state and the federal will quicken the improvement of our roads, schools, power generation and the entire array of social services.
“This new era of cooperation between the state and federal government promises to be a golden period for Lagos and for all Lagosians to share equally therein,” he said.
Below is the Ambode’s  full acceptance speech:
Fellow Lagosians, yesterday – election day – history beckoned. Courage stood tall and democracy blew its trumpet. You the people – the electorate – marched to a victory only you could achieve. You contested against the old and ancient devices of money and power that thwarted the sovereign will of the people. You proved that the collective voice remains the voice of Lagos.
The official announcement of INEC has come. INEC has declared me the fourteenth governor-elect of Lagos State. Only God crowns kings, and we thank God today. I may have won your vote, but it is you – the people – who have won the election. And therefore, I accept this victory on your behalf.
I must congratulate INEC for a job well done. I thank my oppositional candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje, who fought a tireless and tough campaign against me. I urge him and all his supporters to join hands with me to move Lagos forward.
The people of Lagos have spoken with one voice. They have chosen continuity over an uncertain future. Not even threats from opponents could stop you from the call of destiny. Our victory at the polls has sealed a pact with democracy and good governance. And therefore, I shall devote every fibre of my being to even greater prosperity, growth and development to each and every Lagosian.
I will bring the best of Lagos into my governance. I shall make you proud and glad that I should do the best for Lagos. Lagos has a common desire to enthrone good governance. Lagos – under my watch – will not discriminate. There will be no political victimisation.
History has been made this day. By affirming your faith in APC and in me, for the first time in sixty years, progressive state government has been married with progressive federal government – a victory for progressive democracy. For the first time, we have a state and federal government who will work in one vision, one mind and one accord.
I make it my mission to govern wisely, and not rudely. Joint infrastructure and employment programmes will help improve roads, schools, electricity, and other social services. And we will succeed because of the cohesion between state and federal government. Under my watch, Lagos will enjoy optimal growth guaranteed through enhanced policy harmony.
I thank Muhammudu Buhari, our president-elect, for providing his stature and help in this campaign. I look forward to working with Mr Buhari to move Lagos and the whole Nigeria forward.
I would also like to mention two people – whom without – this campaign would not have been possible. First: Governor Babtunde Fashola, who has been a tireless, selfless and inspiring campaigner. Second: Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the greatest political mind of our generation. Without his vision and dedication to a higher political purpose, this would not have been possible. He is the foremost hero of
Nigerian Democracy.
[Thanks Lagos Chapter, campaign team and family]
It is not possible to thank everyone who made this campaign possible. So forgive me for not mentioning everyone who assisted me. But I would like to thank you all for your continued support. We have turned our distant dream into an imminent reality. We had a campaign devoid of hatred. We embraced a paradigm shift in our democracy.
Even though INEC have declared my victory, this is no time for boasting or gloating. I am the Governor-elect for all Lagos. Today, we celebrate democracy. Tomorrow, we get back into work. You have voted for me, now I shall work for you. I will expand the process of development and growth in the state. It will not be an easy task; it will require creativity, wisdom and strength of purpose. But together we can make Lagos even greater.
Thank you! APC!
Ambode is continuing the legacy of Tinubu and Fashola, who many Lagosians believe have been great servants of Lagos state.

APC Plans To Approve Buhari’s Ministerial List

The chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will ratify the list of persons to be nominated into the Federal Executive Council before presentation to the National Assembly.
The leadership of the party were seeking to restore the APC power which some supposed was lost during the 16 years under the ruling of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
A significant northern leader of the APC, who wanted not to be named because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the APC was working to shun the difficulties which led to the crash of the PDP.
The politician said: “We are looking at a situation where the party will direct the affairs of government in line with our manifesto. Recall that this was largely the case during the second republic.
“But since 1999, what we have seen is the rise of individuals whose personal interests took precedence over the general interest of the party and the people.
“The APC cannot afford to let this happen because we have a social contract with the Nigerian people who voted for the party based on the promise to bring about change in the polity.”
He added that under the APC government, there is no way the First Lady would have the freedom to interfere in the party affairs to the level of dictating who got nominated and who did not.
The politician said: “This time around, the party will make an input into how its elected public office holders conduct the business of delivering on promises made, because we, as a party, will share in their success and will also share in the blame, should they fail.”
Ogbonnaya Onu, a leading member of the APC and former governor of old Abia State, has recently told journalists that as a party, the APC would be guided by the constitution.
While answering to a question as to how members of the cabinet would emerge, Onu said the APC was a party which was determined to do things differently to enable that Nigerians get value from administration.
Onu said: “In forming government, you have to make consultations with the party. We are a party of change, we are a party that is looking forward to building a Nigeria that many of the problems we have today will be solved, and we can’t do things the way they were done before; knowing that the way they were done before didn’t give the results that were desired.”
The information arose recently that former president Olusegun Obasanjo and national leader of the APC Bola Tinubu disagreed over the candidature for the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to the agreement with the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, the former Lagos governor will name nine ministers.

APC, PDP Clash Over Mimiko’s Defection

The Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in Ondo state are currently in disagreement following rumours of a planned defection of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and his supporters to the APC.
The APC, in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Omo’oba Adesanya, vowed not to allow Mimiko to infect the party with the same crisis rocking the PDP in the state, but the PDP had denied any defection plan by members of the party.
Adesanya alleged that Mimiko had been reaching out to some leaders of the APC but he had been told he would not be allowed to join the APC.
“Mimiko, who brought political Ebola into the PDP in the state, will not be allowed to infect the APC in the state.
“Although, it is confirmed that Dr. Mimiko has been reaching out to some of our party leaders, it has however been made clear to him that he cannot be accepted into the APC,” Adesanya said.

Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, on April 8 once again restated his commitment to fighting corruption in the country.

The All Progressives Congress politician vowed to focus on dealing with corruption, insecurity and unemployment. Additionally, he stressed that special priority should be given to education.

The politician noted, however, that with the change of the administration, Nigeria’s resources would be distributed fairly.

Fadaka in a statement said Oke has made a short-sighted political mistake.
“We note with aghast the decampment of Chief Olusola Oke from our Party to the All Progressive Congress, to us it is a route that Oke should not in any circumstance embark upon but since he in company of his little band have chosen to do so, they are welcome to it.
“We equally feel duty bound to declare that we are disappointed that a man who operated as a major stakeholder in our Party could curiously elect to become a common joiner in a Party.
